Although the definition can vary, exotic pets are generally described as any pet that is not a cat, dog, or domesticated farm animal. Many people draw naming inspiration from their pet’s appearance or species, such as Teddy for a teddy bear hamster. You also can look to your favorite movies, TV shows, songs, famous people and animals, and travel destinations for ideas. Or perhaps you simply want a name that starts with a specific letter of the alphabet. Here are some terrific exotic pet names that start with the letter T. 12 Best Small Exotic Pets for Apartment Living Top Exotic Pet Names TangoTankTarzanTater TotTazTeddyTiggerTimonTootsieTortugaTrickyTrinketTroubleTweetyTwiggy Tips for Naming Your Exotic Pet The exotic pet category varies widely in terms of average lifespan in captivity, so select a name that you’ll be happy with over the course of your pet’s life. Some animals, such as certain small rodents and fish, only live for a few years. But others, including large parrots and tortoises, can live for 50 years or longer. While some animals won't learn to respond to their name, so changing it later on won't matter, it still can be a hassle to change an animal’s name on vet records and other information. So take your time to pick a name that sticks. Be mindful about choosing a name that you will be comfortable sharing with friends, family members, and your veterinarian's office. If you ever think you’ll be embarrassed hearing a particular name called in your vet’s waiting room, that’s probably a sign you should pick something else. You can draw name inspiration from your animal’s appearance and species characteristics, in addition to its personality traits. As your animal becomes comfortable in its new home, its true personality should start to shine, which could also give you some ideas for its name. For instance, you could name a particularly springy bunny Tigger after the bouncing “Winnie-the-Pooh” character. Tip When choosing a name for your exotic pet, consider its lifespan and your comfort level with sharing the name. Select a name you'll be happy with throughout the pet's life, which can vary significantly from a few years to several decades. Also, choose a name you won't be embarrassed to say in public settings, like the vet's office. Should You Keep a Prairie Dog as a Pet?
