Cat brush gloves are wearable cat brushes that allow you to brush or massage your cat while petting them. They have short, soft teeth that can remove dirt, dander, and dead hair, leaving your cat with a sleek, soft, shiny coat. Jenna Wait, PetSmart Services education leader, says using cat brush gloves with your cat may be perceived as a bonding experience, as cats often socialize through grooming. “They’re also great for coat management and can assist in deshedding your feline,” Wait told The Spruce Pets.

Cat brush gloves can work with all types of coats and can be a good alternative for cats who don’t enjoy being groomed with regular brushes or have sensitive skin. “They are great tools to be used when bathing your pet,” Wait said, “as they can be used on wet or dry coats.”

These pet grooming gloves are the most form-fitting gloves we’ve seen. Their design is similar to thin gardening gloves, whereas many pet hair grooming gloves are oversized to accommodate a one-size-fits-all catch-all. This tighter fit gives them the edge of superior brush control, though they aren’t as easy to slip off as the larger, roomier grooming gloves. Another big win for the HandsOn Pet Grooming Gloves is that they come in five different sizes, including a junior size for kids or people with petite hands. 

We also like how they can be used on several different species, including horses, so they’re a good pick for rescues, farm folks, or anyone looking for one pair of grooming gloves for multiple animals. We tested these gloves on cats and dogs, and both appeared to love the feeling of being brushed. Each order comes with two gloves, a lefty and a righty, making them ideal for double-handed grooming sessions or multiple groomers with different dominant hands (it’s often a right-handed world out there in the grooming glove market). It’s worth noting that the PVC rubber grooming pins have a cone-like shape and are less flexible than gloves specifically for cats or dogs, and so they may be a bit too intense for sensitive cats. We did not run into this problem during testing. In fact, it was the opposite, with both tester cats rubbing themselves against the gloves; they quickly became the cats' favorite grooming tool. 

Another plus? Made from nylon, PVC, and nitrile, these gloves are waterproof and can be used during bathtime and clean off easily with a quick rinse under water. Removing hair from the pins is as easy as rubbing your hands together and pulling it off. The only big word of warning would be that the pins don’t always capture and hold groomed hairs, and, as our tester noted, it was more like the gloves massaged out the pet hair rather than brushed and collected it.

The Well & Good Grooming Glove for Cats comes as a double-sided single glove (most gloves are sold in pairs or only feature one side of grooming pins). We like this because it reduces waste since one glove works for both left- and right-handed people. Plus, you can easily switch hands in the middle of a grooming session without having to stop and clean off the first side, which you will have to do during each session, as this brush excels at catching loose cat hair. 

This is the brush I use with my cat, Bo, a double-coated cat. We tested it out during some of the hottest days of the year and were impressed at how well it de-shedded hair from both coats. Bo also appeared to enjoy the feeling of being brushed with the glove. He frequently begged for more pets with the brush, purred like a motor, and even cuddled with the glove when it wasn’t in use. I also gave Bo a few grooming strokes with this brush glove right after I’d used a slicker brush, and it managed to pick up a decent amount of loose fur the slicker brush had missed. A year and a half later, this is still one of his favorite brushes. 

This one-size-fits-most glove felt comfortable to wear and provided above-average brush control. We were fans of the range of brushing movement, but found the fingers a bit too wide to brush smaller areas such as cheeks and feet. The silicone glove is secured via a Velcro strap around the wrist, and groomed hair can easily be removed by plucking or peeling the hairs caught in the pins.

How We Picked

We tested 25 cat brushes in real-world conditions, sending bestselling and well-reviewed brushes out to real cat homes for months of combined testing with eager cat testers. Multiple cat brush glove models were also included in the test. After four weeks of at-home trials, our human testers filled out a questionnaire that told us what they thought of the product. We looked for brushes that combined a high-quality build with a comfortable construction that’s easy to use. We also evaluated each brush glove’s effectiveness and gathered data on the test cat’s age and coat type.

For Long-Haired Cats: Mr. Peanut’s Pet Grooming Gloves come as a pair but can be used individually on either the right or left hand. Each glove features 259 individual rubber pins—a bumped-up number from the previous iteration—that are placed slightly farther apart than in most brushes. Though our expert noted that cat brush gloves tend to work best on short-haired cats, the extra space between the pins on these Mr. Peanut gloves can be beneficial for use on long-haired cats since more hair can wrap between the bristles, resulting in fewer tangles and clogs in the brushing process. 

Fur from long-haired cats stays well in between the bristles, making it easier to pull off collected fur on the glove. On short-haired cats, this glove may also be better tolerated by cats that reject regular deshedding brushes, as our tester discovered. However, they also noted the pins were a bit too spaced out to pick up a worthwhile amount of hair on their short-haired feline (but the gloves may still be used as a massage tool for these cats).

For Bathtime: The Whisker City Cat Grooming Glove can be used in or out of the bath, but we found it most valuable during bathtime. This dual-sided glove (sold singly) features one side with a paw pattern of large and small bristle pins for lathering up shampoo and massaging dirt from your cat’s coat. You can also use this side for dry brushing, but it wasn’t nearly as effective as other options at removing loose cat hair. The other side is covered with a soft microfiber fabric for cleaning sensitive areas like kitty’s nose, toes, or face, but we’ve found it works best for quick-drying right out of the tub. 

This glove is more of a full-hand mitt, so you’ll lose the finger dexterity you get with a fingered glove. The overall feel was floppy, and it seemed like this would be best used on a larger breed cat. It’s one-size-fits-all, and we appreciate the interior elastic band that helps provide a more customized fit. The mitt secures to your wrist with a Velcro strap, and there’s also a small band to hold the glove on your wrist when you’re not wearing it.

Handheld Option: This hand grip brush straddles the line between a brush glove and your usual handheld brush. Pet parents will have top-notch brush control and easy cleanup, while pets get the tactile benefits from the brush’s flexible silicone pins. One of our favorite things about this brush is how agile it allows you to be with brushing movements. You can easily brush forward, backward, and in circles over your cat’s fur, picking up loose hairs you might miss with one-directional brushing.

Our tester made special note of this brush’s sturdy, all-silicone construction and its overall effectiveness as a de-shedding tool. The test cat, Bella, had noticeably fluffier fur after use, without the track marks of more heavy-duty pin brushes. It’s especially easy to use because of its comfortable grip, which makes you, the human, more likely to spend time wielding the brush.

Instead of sliding your entire hand through a pocket, this brush uses an M-shaped handle to keep the brush in position as you grip the top with your palm. It’ll likely fit the average adult-sized hand just fine, but smaller children’s hands may slip out during brushing. Since there is no metal or fabric, this brush is also waterproof and can be easily soaped up, used while bathing, and hand-washed.

For Kittens: There are plenty of kittens that may become anxious if they see a pair of big blue hands coming at them. They may prefer the gentler approach of the Four Paws Magic Coat Glove. The glove is more of a grooming pad filled with soft, flexible silicone nubs that offer a tender touch while massaging and deshedding. Though the glove was not tested by actual kittens, we know from experience that these little guys need a different, less-invasive approach when it comes to handling their delicate bodies (and this is a top seller on Amazon, so we think it's worth recommending).

The glove has an adjustable strap to ensure a good fit for any hand size. The design of the glove makes it easy to lighten the pressure when grooming younger kittens with more sensitive skin.

Though the manufacturer says this glove also gets those little hairs off furniture and carpet, you may have to put more effort into this than anticipated. Also note that this glove is only for right-handed users, so you may want to stick to a double-sided glove if you're a lefty.

Delomo Pet Grooming Glove: This five-finger grooming glove has 255 soft silicone pins that measure about 40 percent longer than the standard pin. The length, spacing, and layout of the brush pins work best for longer hair and multiple coats, but likely won’t be as effective at catching short hair. We love that the brush gloves come in several color options, but we dislike the one-size-fits-all aspect. The back-of-hand material is mesh, breathable, and a bit thinner than we’d like, but this keeps the gloves lightweight, less sweaty, and faster drying. 

Furbliss Brush for Grooming, Brushing, and Bathing Dogs and Cats: This handheld silicone brush did an excellent job at tricking our tester cat into thinking she was getting a massage rather than a brushing. We liked the shape and size of the brush, and how easy it was to hold while brushing. Cleaning it was also as hassle-free as removing hair from a human brush. However, we didn’t necessarily notice any less shedding. This brush is designed for short-haired cats and dogs, and the stubby pins likely wouldn’t be effective on a long-haired cat.
