While most bone broth manufactured for humans isn’t suitable for cats because of the added spices and salt, this single-ingredient beef bone broth doesn’t have any added yeast, salt, flavoring, or fillers. Left Coast Performance Grass-fed Beef Bone Broth is made from the bones of grass-fed cattle in Sweden, which have been slow-cooked and simmered for hours to extract nutrients. It is a minimum 95 percent crude protein and contains natural type I and III collagen that is rich in amino acids, including arginine, an essential amino acid for cats.  

It doesn't have to be refrigerated before or after opening but should be stored in a dark, cool place for maximum shelf life. It’s suitable for all life stages and can be sprinkled on top of your cat’s food or mixed with warm water. Each 8-ounce tub has approximately 90 servings’ worth of powdered bone broth (based on serving size for a 25-pound or less dog)—though there isn’t a serving size guide for felines, which makes it difficult to know the best serving size for your cat.

Native Pet makes two flavors of bone broth for your cat—beef and chicken—though we’re partial to the beef version because it has only two ingredients and the first is beef bone broth. The second ingredient is sunflower lecithin, which functions as a cat-safe thickener and can even help shine up your kitty’s coat. It's also often used for neurological disorders in cats thanks to its role in neural transmission. We also like that this bone broth was researched and formulated by vets and each serving contains a minimum of 90 percent crude protein.

Unlike liquid bone broth that will spoil in the refrigerator about a week after opening, this powder can be stored on the shelf for up to a year after opening and each 4.75-ounce resealable container can have around 50 or more servings. Give it to your cat by either sprinkling it on top of their regular food, mixing it into their water, or mixing it with warm water for a brothy treat. Although the current packaging doesn’t mention this product is made for cats, we called the company and got confirmation that both flavors of bone broth powder are safe for cats (and were told there is a cat-inclusive label redesign in the making).

This 12-pack of single-serve powdered bone broth is a convenient way to add a little oomph to your cat’s current diet or entice them to drink more water. About the size of a credit card, the thin shelf-stable sachets are perfect for travel since they can easily slip into the pocket of your jeans, purse, or cat carrier—most ideal for cat parents who don’t expect to use bone broth daily or who plan to be on the go. Packets can be opened and sprinkled on top of your cat’s food or mixed into their water as needed—though keep in mind a packet is likely more than one serving and it's hard to figure out the exact amount to give your cat, especially if it’s on the smaller side.

The bone broth is made with human-grade standards, in a human food facility, and contains no preservatives, fillers, or GMO ingredients. We like that dehydrated beef broth and beef are the first two ingredients, but find it curious that they don't specify if it is grass-fed beef, which is considered superior. It also contains dehydrated pumpkin (for digestive support), dried parsley, and dehydrated turmeric (an anti-inflammatory), which may be a hit or miss with some pet parents.

These Applaws limited-ingredient pouches of fish broth and tuna are a great bone broth alternative for cats that have intolerances or allergies to common land-based proteins or picky eaters on prescription diets. We love that each 3-ounce pouch contains just four ingredients: fish bone broth, tuna filet pieces, tilapia (used for extra collagen), and guar gum, a natural fiber—though guar gum may cause gas or diarrhea in cats when ingested in large quantities. Unfortunately, the lack of a serving-size guide may cause some anxiety for pet parents wondering how much is too much. 

Still, this broth uses no artificial ingredients, colors, or preservatives, is high in moisture, and has a resealable spout to help preserve the package’s freshness over multiple uses. It’s meant to be served at room temperature as a meal complement poured over dry or wet food.  Leftovers need to be refrigerated and used within five days, so this option is most economical if you’re planning to add the broth regularly.

The concentrated bone broths are also paired with ingredients such as yeast extract, inulin, carrot juice, apple juice, pumpkin juice, and cranberry juice. They contain no corn, wheat, or soy.

Each variety is shelf-stable and packaged in 11-ounce cartons with an easy-to-use twist-off cap. Since they only last a week in the refrigerator once opened, some pet parents may have to throw out the leftovers if they only use a small amount at a time as a topper, which isn't cost-effective.
